We’re the original company to provide fresh cooked food for dogs since 2008.

Exceptional People Magazine mail order dog food

Dogs have always been a part of my life — from entertaining our miniature poodle Samantha when I was a baby, to walking the streets of my neighbourhood in Corso Italia with my aussiedoodle Django — I can’t imagine a time where our pets didn’t have a special place in my heart.

That’s why I’m proud to be bringing Lucky Dog Cuisine dog food delivery to Canada. My mother, Dr. Janice Elenbaas, has developed our custom dog food recipes over the course of decades to ensure that we are providing the best, human grade food to the dogs of Canada. I’m ecstatic to not only be working with my family, but in my hometown of Toronto too.

I love telling people that cooking custom dog food for my dogs is a family tradition, dating back for generations. I love sharing the story of how I accidentally brought back a container full of Lucky Dog to my college dorm with me instead of the leftover Thanksgiving fixings. It didn’t go to waste – my friends and I turned it into tacos! I love hearing about clients whose picky dogs wouldn’t eat regularly until they tried our recipes. I love seeing a dog do the “Lucky Dog Dance” as they wait for their food in the microwave, the tasty aromas already tantalizing their nostrils. But most importantly, I love being a part of something that’s bigger than me.

Letter from Dr. Janice

We know that not all dogs are going to eat Lucky Dog but if we can help to educate everyone both canine and human perhaps one day all dogs will eat at least some whole food as part of their diets.

The pet food industry was born as a dumping ground for waste products for large corporations. Please spend a little time learning so you can make educated decisions and not buy into the propaganda that dogs need dry cereal every day for the rest of their lives.

I consider it a huge privilege to be allowed to feed your dog. Thank you for trusting Lucky Dog Cuisine, we won’t let you down.

    Our Story

HOW WE STARTED – Lucky Dog Cuisine was born out of a passion to see dogs live healthier lives. We have been feeding our own dogs a simplified version of our current recipes for over 50 years. With the dog food recalls of 2008 when more than 4,000 dogs died due to tainted commercial foods we decided we had to share. With lots of testing with the Department of Agriculture, input from our PhD in companion animal nutrition and a dose of common sense: Lucky Dog Cuisine was born!

WHO ARE WE – We are a small family run company that has used a very old fashioned business model. We try to treat everyone the way we would like to be treated. We have had wonderful customer loyalty and have expanded to the point where we are now servicing the entire Continental US. We have just opened a Toronto office that will be handling all Canadian inquiries as well! Thanks for your support. We truly believe we have started a “common sense revolution” in dog food.

        WHY NOT KIBBLE?

Put quite bluntly, we hate kibble!
Wow, I can’t believe we put that on our website.

Traditional commercial dog food was founded to help use up waste products from huge corporations. They normally use inferior “pet grade” ingredients (meaning virtually anything not fit for human consumption). Their next challenge is that they have to cook at such high temperatures that most of the nutrients are degraded. Please see our Scary but True section for more info. We encourage you to research some of the books and info we pass along as well, as well as make sure you sign up for the WetNose News to have pet nutrition information arrive directly in your inbox!
